Tejas Centennial Fund

In just five years, the Tejas Club will celebrate its 100th anniversary.  We have much to be proud of.  It is amazing that an organization whose core membership turns over every four years and has a volunteer-run alumni group has thrived for so long.  Something to celebrate!

During the next five years leading up to the Centennial, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet our most pressing need: to provide adequate housing at a reasonable cost for current members of the Tejas Club.  The Tejas Foundation has exhaustively researched all of the housing options available to us, and it leads to one conclusion: we must invest in the Tejas House at 2600 Rio Grande Street as our home for the future.  A summary of the pros and cons of all the models we investigated is attached.

The Centennial Plan

A total renovation of the Tejas House (or Teepee) is essential.  While we do not have a final plan, the cost is likely to be close to $1 million.  The House was built in 1907 and has been the home of the Tejas Club for 65 years and the wear and tear is substantial.  For most of us, Tejas is that place at 26th and Rio Grande.  Our memories are there, our friendships are there, and it continues to hold a precious place in our hearts.

To raise this unprecedented level of funding, The Tejas Foundation needs to create and sustain a group of alumni who will give a monthly gift for the next five years:

  • Alumni who graduated longer than fifteen years ago will give $100 per month ($1,200 per year);
  • Alumni who graduated from five to fifteen years ago will give $50 per month ($600 per year); and,
  • Alumni who graduated up to five years ago will give $25 per month ($300 per year);

Our Goal

The goal is to enroll 100 alumni into this program at the levels given above, all of whom will be Tejas Centennial Fund Partners.  If we are successful, the program will raise $500,000-$600,000 and provide the Tejas Foundation with the means to provide a home for Tejas Braves for the next century.

In order to launch the program, we would like to have 100 participants enrolled by the 95th Anniversary Tejas Reunion on April 17-19, 2020.

Can we count on you?  The Tejas Club was an essential part of your college experience, and it continues to shape its members at the highest level of leadership, scholarship, and friendship.  There is nothing like it on the University of Texas campus, or indeed on any campus.
